Mike Dahlby Receives WI PF Conservationist Of The Year Award
Mike Dahlby of the Chippewa Valley Pheasants Forever Chapter was awarded the Wisconsin Pheasants Forever Conservationist Of The Year at the 2009 Pheasant Fest in Madison, WI.
In an email to colleagues, friends, & fellow conservationists Mike wrote:
"thank you for this distinctive honor. I cannot adequately express, in words, the pride I take in the recognition AND working with each of you in pursuit of our common cause. The award means a lot to me.
For the record, each of you are equally deserving. I view the award as recognition of our collective accomplishments.
It is amazing to consider all of the previous contributions that were needed in order to facilitate the accomplishments we are making today. To name just a small subset: previous hunter/conservationists inspired us and conserved resources for us to appreciate (TR, Leopold, our own family members); local visionaries (Dave Carlson, Peter Taylor, and others) chartered the Chippewa Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever; the State Leadership created and maintains the Knowles Nelson Stewardship Fund; leaders at the County level (Dan Masterpole, Jim Dahl, Larry Willkom, and others) inspired the County Stewardship Fund, etc. etc…. Not to mention PF National or ready, willing, and able landowners.
I accept the 'Conservationist of the Year' award on behalf of our collective interests. Most importantly, I'm moving forward with unprecedented motivation and enthusiasm to accomplish more for the best future we can provide those (people and natural systems) that follow us. My very best regards to you all".
Congratulations to Mike for a much deserved award!!
Pheasants Forever's unique system empowers county chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100% of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent.
PF, and sister quail division, are the only national conservation organizations that operate through this truly grassroots structure. As a result, grassroots chapter volunteers are able to see the fruits of their efforts locally, while belonging to a larger national organization with a voice on federal and state conservation policy.
This is a unique distinction. Last year alone, those chapter volunteers completed over 20,000 habitat projects. Similarly, Pheasants Forever has always recognized the impact federal Farm Bill policy has on wildlife habitat. Consequently, PF has played an active role in Farm Bill policy development and implementation, which includes the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). CRP is this country's single most effective conservation program benefiting soil, water, and wildlife.
Pheasants Forever has more than 110,000 members in over 600 local chapters across the United States and Canada. The national headquarters is located in St. Paul, Minnesota where the organization was founded.
